Tanzanian PM orders audit of university funds

The Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, has directed the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) to dispatch auditors to the University of Dodoma (UDOM) to undertake a thorough auditing, as a result of recent problems over lecturer payments and students strikes.

Mr Pinda said a committee of permanent secretaries that he had assigned to inspect the management of the university and found poor financial accounting.

“The only authority that could squarely deal with this problem is the Controller and Auditor General,” said the Prime Minister.

Contacted for comment on Monday, the CAG, Mr Ludovick Utouh, said it was true that the PM has directed his office to conduct the audit.
